BNP is planning to invite Indian Prime Minister Narendra Modi to the swearing-in ceremony of BNP Chairman Tarique Rahman as the new Prime Minister of Bangladesh , Indian media outlet WION reported on Tuesday.
WION says that the initiative is being seen as a diplomatic gesture to ease tensions between Bangladesh and India following the BNP’s landslide victory in the recent elections. This message is aimed at overcoming the chill that has developed between the two countries, especially after the political changes in 2024.
BNP foreign affairs advisor Humayun Kabir was quoted as saying that regional cooperation and harmony are important parts of Tarique Rahman’s foreign policy. In his words, the invitation to the swearing-in ceremony will be a “symbol of goodwill and positive relations.”
The report also mentions that the new BNP-led government wants to pursue a balanced foreign policy by actively utilizing regional platforms like SAARC and BIMSTEC.
