  • After the landslide victory in the 13th parliamentary elections, BNP Chairman Tarique Rahman has sought the cooperation of all parties and people of different views in building a safe, humane and democratic Bangladesh.

Speaking at a post-election press conference at the ballroom of the Intercontinental Hotel in the capital on Saturday afternoon, he urged everyone to exercise restraint and not let any misunderstandings during the election contest turn into revenge or violence.

Tarique Rahman expressed gratitude to the people of the country, Bangladeshis abroad, and democratic forces worldwide for the victory. He said, “Unity will be our greatest strength on this path of democratic transition.”

According to unofficial results, the BNP and its alliance won 212 of the 297 seats declared, ensuring the majority needed to form a government. According to the Election Commission, the voter turnout in this election was about 59 percent.

Analysts are seeing Tarique Rahman’s call as a message of national unity and political restraint at the beginning of the new government, in the context of returning to power after two long decades.
