  • After the 13th National Assembly elections, Chief Election Commissioner AMM Nasir Uddin said that the commission has been able to fulfill its promise to the nation of transparent and acceptable elections.

“We had no hidden agenda. We wanted to have a completely transparent election—and we achieved that,” he said at the results announcement ceremony on Thursday night.

In his welcome speech at the Election Commission , the CEC said that this was a long-awaited election, which was made possible through collective efforts to give a gift to the nation. “I think our efforts and hard work have been fruitful,” he said.

Commenting on the overall atmosphere of the election, the CEC said that it could be considered a good election by any historical standard. In his words, “We promised to hold a festive, fair, and credible election—and the people are recognizing that.”

However, he admitted that there are limitations. Citing the huge ballot management including 127 million voters in a country of 180 million and referendums, the CEC said that this election would not have been possible without the cooperation of the media, voters, political parties and all concerned.

He added, “This is not a perfect election—nowhere is that the case. But by any acceptable standard, it is a good and credible election.”
