
BNP Chairman Tarique Rahman is coming to a press conference this Saturday afternoon after his landslide victory in the 13th parliamentary elections . According to a party message, he will speak to journalists at 3 pm in the ballroom of the Intercontinental Hotel in the capital.
Tarique Rahman contested from two seats in this election and won both. According to unofficial results, he got 60,215 votes in Dhaka-17; his nearest rival, Jamaat candidate S.M. Khaliduzzaman, got 24,524 votes. In Bogra-6, Tarique Rahman got 2,16,284 votes from 150 constituencies; his rival, Abidur Rahman Sohel, got 97,626 votes.
Overall, the Bangladesh Nationalist Party and its alliance won 212 seats. Meanwhile, the Bangladesh Election Commission has published the gazette for 297 seats. The results of the two seats in Chittagong will be announced later, while the voting for the Sherpur-3 seat has been postponed. The total voter turnout in the election was 59.44 percent.
