Playing with one man more, Bosnia continued to put pressure on the Italian defense. Goalkeeper Gianluigi Donnarumma made several clear-cut saves, but in the 82nd minute, the hosts were unable to mount a counterattack. The hosts equalized with a concerted effort from the attacking side.
After neither team scored in extra time, the match went to a tiebreaker. Italy’s weakness became clear there. They fell behind from the first shot, and Bosnia took advantage of the opportunities in succession to win.
