The Election Commission has declared the nomination of Nagorik Oikya president Mahmudur Rahman Manna valid for Dhaka-18 constituency. His nomination was initially suspended due to inconsistencies in his affidavit and income tax return, but it was declared valid after the submission of revised documents and verification.
Dhaka-18 constituency returning officer Sharaf Uddin Ahmed Chowdhury confirmed the matter on Saturday evening. Earlier, at around 3:30 pm, a discrepancy was reported during the nomination verification and an hour was given. If the necessary amendments are submitted within the stipulated time, the commission will uphold his candidacy.
Reacting to the declaration of the nomination as valid, Mahmudur Rahman Manna said that although this year’s election process is more difficult than ever before, he expressed satisfaction with the Election Commission’s decision.
