Maduro to be tried in US court

International Desk »

  • Venezuelan President Nicolas Maduro has been arrested and will be taken to the United States for trial, US Senator Mike Lee said. He said that with Maduro’s arrest, there is no possibility of a new US attack on Venezuela.

Mike Lee wrote on social media X that Secretary of State Marco Rubio told him that there was no need to continue the military operation because Maduro was now in US custody. He also quoted Rubio as saying that the midnight raids in Venezuela were to ensure the safety of those involved in executing the warrant for Maduro’s arrest.

The United States alleges that Maduro ran a “drug empire” in Venezuela from which drugs were smuggled into the United States. An arrest warrant was issued for him in 2020 on this charge, and a $50 million reward was announced for information leading to his arrest or detention.

US media outlet CBS News reported that the US military’s elite counter-terrorism unit, Delta Force, had captured Maduro. The incident has sparked widespread international reaction and concern.
