A writ petition has been filed in the High Court challenging the legality of the removal of former Bangladesh Bank Governor Dr. Ahsan H. Mansur and the appointment of a new governor.
Supreme Court lawyer Abdullah Al Mamun filed the writ on Thursday. The writ has named the finance secretary and several other officials as respondents. The writ seeks a direction to suspend and cancel the appointment of the newly appointed governor.
On February 25, the government issued a notification removing Dr. Ahsan H. Mansur from the post of Bangladesh Bank Governor. On the same day, a separate notification announced the appointment of Md. Mostaqur Rahman as the new governor.
The order issued by the Financial Institutions Division of the Ministry of Finance said that the decision has been implemented immediately in the public interest by canceling the remaining term of Mansur’s appointment.
