
Prime Minister Tarique Rahman will inaugurate a pilot project for the distribution of family cards aimed at directly supporting poor and low-income families . The program will start simultaneously in 14 upazilas of the country on March 10.
After a meeting in the capital on Tuesday, Social Welfare Minister Professor Dr. Abu Zafar Md. Zahid Hossain said that the final decision to implement the project on a trial basis has been taken based on the recommendations of the cabinet sub-committee. The cards will be distributed universally in one ward of one union in each upazila.
The minister said that through this card, female members of extremely poor, poor and low-income families will receive financial assistance of Tk 2,500 per month . Information will be collected through a ‘door-to-door’ method without any political or religious considerations, so that the real beneficiaries are included.
