Government to pay honorarium to imams and muezzins before Eid

  • As part of implementing its election pledge, the Tarique Rahman -led government is going to start the process of providing honorariums to mosque imams and muezzins before Eid-ul-Fitr .

    Initially, this initiative will be launched in a few areas; later, there are plans to expand it across the country.

    Prime Minister’s Advisor Mahdi Amin told reporters in front of the Prime Minister’s Office in Tejgaon on Saturday afternoon. He was accompanied by State Minister for Local Government and Cooperatives Shahe Alam. Mahdi Amin said that the BNP government had promised to provide honorarium to religious leaders before the elections, the implementation of which will begin before the upcoming Eid. The amount of honorarium will be finalized in an inter-ministerial meeting.

    Earlier, the Prime Minister’s Press Secretary Saleh Shibli said that on the third working day of taking charge, the Prime Minister worked at the Tejgaon office for the first time and gave policy guidelines for implementing election promises. During this time, the concerned ministers and officials discussed various policy programs.
