  • Dhaka Metropolitan Police Commissioner Sheikh Md. Sajjat Alihas said that there is no security risk on the occasion of February 20th Martyrs’ Day and International Mother Language Day

However, as a precaution, a multi-faceted security cordon consisting of about 15,000 police personnel has been prepared around the Central Shaheed Minar .

After visiting the Shaheed Minar area on Friday morning, the commissioner said that keeping in mind that a large crowd will gather to pay homage to the language martyrs, several layers of security measures have been taken by the police, other law enforcement agencies and volunteers. In addition to regular patrols, SWAT, dog squad, bomb disposal and crime scene units will be ready around the clock; intelligence and cyber surveillance have been strengthened.

To ensure discipline in entry and exit, the general public has been instructed to enter the Shaheed Minar through the Palashi More-Jagannath Hall crossing and exit via the Romana crossing via Doel Chattar or Chankharpul after paying homage. Entry outside the specified route will be prohibited. People are also urged not to carry sharp objects, flammable or explosive materials.

The commissioner said that traffic diversions will be implemented in the Dhaka University area from Friday evening . All concerned have been requested to cooperate by following the instructions.
