
Prime Minister Tarique Rahman will lay wreaths at the Central Shaheed Minar on Friday at 12:01 am to mark the great Martyrs’ Day and International Mother Language Day .
Tight security measures have been taken in the capital surrounding the day. Law enforcement officials said there is no specific threat surrounding the Ekushey February event, but maximum alert has been maintained.
Rapid Action Battalion Director General AKM Shahidur Rahman said in a briefing at the Shaheed Minar premises on Friday morning, “Although there is no information about any risk, we have completed all kinds of preparations. RAB is ready to deal with any situation.”
He said that RAB has been deployed in coordination with other forces in Shaheed Minar and surrounding areas. Advance security checks have been completed through the Bomb Disposal Unit and Dog Squad, while special forces have been kept ready at all times. A separate security cordon will also be in place for paying homage to VVIPs, VIPs and political leaders.
