Prime Minister Tarique Rahman has said that the rule of law, not party or political influence, prestige or force, will be the final word in governing the state. He outlined the new government’s direction in his address to the nation on Wednesday (February 18) night.
At the beginning of his speech, he paid tribute to the martyrs and said that this government, formed by the people’s vote, has embarked on the path of establishing accountable governance. The government’s goal is to transform Bangladesh into a safe and humane state for all citizens of the hills and plains, regardless of religion, caste, and differences.
The Prime Minister said the government took charge amid a corruption-ridden economy, weak governance and deteriorating law and order situation. Improving law and order, controlling corruption and preventing the spread of gambling and drugs have been given top priority.
