On the first working day of the new government, Home Minister Salahuddin Ahmed told reporters after a meeting at the secretariat on Wednesday, “Mob culture is over in Bangladesh. Even if there is a right to demand, highways cannot be closed to achieve it.”
The minister further warned, “Mob or communal pressure will not be tolerated in the pursuit of demands. Democratic culture will be maintained, but demands must be raised through the proper process.”
Regarding the role of the police force, he said, “The police must be made friends of the people. The previous negative image must be overcome.”
