Lieutenant General (retd) Jahangir Alam Chowdhury, Home Affairs Advisor to the interim government, has commented that a free, fair and festive atmosphere prevails across the country surrounding the 13th National Parliament elections and referendum.
Speaking to reporters after casting his vote at the Scholars International School and College center in Baridhara DOHS in the capital on Thursday morning, he said the government is committed to delivering a credible election and all preparations have been made for that purpose.
Expressing satisfaction over the security situation, the Home Affairs Advisor said that so far there have been no reports of any polling station being occupied or any major chaos. The voting is proceeding peacefully as law enforcement agencies are active on the ground.
Regarding allegations of voter fraud, he said, “The possibility of one person voting for another is very low. However, the government will take strict action if concrete evidence is found.”
He urged the countrymen to participate in this democratic process peacefully, ordering security measures to be maintained until the end of the voting and the announcement of the results.
