The government has appointed 21 executive magistrates in 14 districts of the country to ensure compliance with the code of conduct by candidates ahead of the 13th National Parliament elections. The Ministry of Public Administration issued a notification in this regard on Thursday.
The appointed magistrates will serve in Kishoreganj, Jhenaidah, Khagrachhari, Jessore, Khulna, Chuadanga, Pabna, Noakhali, Satkhira, Habiganj, Dinajpur, Bagerhat, Shariatpur and Sunamganj districts.
The notification states that they will exercise the powers of executive magistrates under the Criminal Procedure Code and will have the jurisdiction to operate mobile courts, including the day of polling, until two days after the polls.
The appointed officials have been instructed to join and report to the concerned District Magistrate or Returning Officer by next Sunday. The government believes that this initiative will play an important role in maintaining a disciplined electoral environment.
