Biman Bangladesh Airlines has been granted permission to operate direct flights from Dhaka to Karachi, Pakistani media outlet Samaa News reported on Friday (January 2).
The media described the decision as a significant development in regional aviation and said that it marks the beginning of a new chapter in air communication between Pakistan and Bangladesh in the new year. The permission was granted by the Civil Aviation Authority of Pakistan (CAA) after formal approval from the government.
Initially, this approval will be valid until March 30, 2026. It may be reviewed later. Biman Bangladesh will have to use Pakistani airspace according to the route specified in the approval.
In addition, Biman Bangladesh has been allocated a separate slot at Karachi Airport. Before operating the flight, the Karachi Airport Authority will have to provide necessary operational and safety-related information.
Officials from the Pakistan Civil Aviation Authority have expressed hope that the Dhaka-Karachi direct flight will increase communication between the people of the two countries, facilitate travel, and help strengthen trade and people-to-people ties.
