The nomination papers of four candidates, including Nagorik Oikya president Mahmudur Rahman Manna and former Jatiya Party MP Shariful Islam Jinnah, have been cancelled in the Bogra-2 (Shibganj) constituency due to inconsistencies and misinformation in their election affidavits.
On Friday (January 2) at around 4:30 pm, Deputy Commissioner and District Returning Officer Md. Taufiqur Rahman announced this decision after scrutinizing the nomination papers.
A total of seven candidates submitted their nomination papers for the Bogra-2 constituency to participate in the 13th National Parliament election. The nominations of BNP nominee Mir Shahe Alam and Jamaat candidate Shahadatuzzaman were declared valid after scrutiny. On the other hand, the nominations of Nagorik Oikya President Mahmudur Rahman Manna, former Jatiya Party MP Shariful Islam Jinnah, independent candidate Rezaul Karim Talu and Gana Adhikar Parishad candidate Selim Sarkar were rejected. The nomination of one candidate has been postponed as the proposer and supporter were not present.
The returning officer said that Shariful Islam Jinnah’s nomination was cancelled for not submitting the affidavit form regarding the declaration of assets. In addition, Mahmudur Rahman Manna’s nomination was declared cancelled due to discrepancies in the affidavit. He also said that the cancelled candidates will be able to appeal.
