The tombs of martyred President Ziaur Rahman and former Prime Minister Begum Khaleda Zia have been opened to the public. The general public was allowed to enter the Zia Udyan in the capital’s Sher-e-Bangla Nagar from noon on Thursday (January 1).
Earlier, Begum Khaleda Zia’s funeral was held at the Jatiya Sangsad Bhaban area on Wednesday (December 31) at around 3 pm. Later, at 4:45 pm, she was buried with full state honors next to the grave of her husband, martyred President Ziaur Rahman.
It is worth noting that BNP Chairperson and three-time former Prime Minister Begum Khaleda Zia passed away at 6 am on Tuesday (December 30) while undergoing treatment at Evercare Hospital in the capital after a long illness. She died after suffering from various physical problems including lung infection, pneumonia, kidney and liver complications.
With the tomb open, it is expected that a large number of people will flock to pay their respects to the beloved leader and martyred President.
