BNP Acting Chairman Tarique Rahman has expressed his emotional feelings, remembering Begum Khaleda Zia and expressing his gratitude to the countrymen. He said this in a post on his verified Facebook page on Thursday (January 1).
Tarique Rahman said, with deep sorrow and gratitude, he laid his mother, three-time former Prime Minister Begum Khaleda Zia, to rest in eternal peace next to martyred President Ziaur Rahman. Stating that the emptiness of his mother cannot be expressed in words, he said, the unprecedented presence of the people of the country did not allow her to suffer from loneliness during this difficult time.
He further said that the respect, love and sympathy of millions of people had deeply moved him. At the time, he mentioned that Begum Khaleda Zia was not only his mother, but in many ways she was the mother of the entire nation.
Tarique Rahman expressed gratitude to the top representatives, diplomats and development partners of various South Asian countries for attending the event and paying their respects. He also thanked the countries that sent messages of condolence.
In the post, he remembered his father, martyred President Ziaur Rahman, and brother Arafat Rahman Koko, saying, “Today, with the love of the people of the country, it feels like the entire Bangladesh has become his family.”
Tarique Rahman said that his mother was engaged in serving people throughout her life. He promised to carry on that responsibility and legacy. He said that he will try to continue his mother’s path from where she left off.
Finally, he prayed for the forgiveness of Begum Khaleda Zia’s soul and said that the nation will draw inspiration for strength, unity and patriotism from the sacrifice, love and generosity she left behind.
