The funeral of BNP Chairperson and former Prime Minister Begum Khaleda Zia will be held at Manik Mia Avenue in the capital after Zohr tomorrow, Wednesday (December 31). After the funeral, she will be buried with state honors next to the tomb of martyred President Ziaur Rahman.
Khaleda Zia passed away at the age of 80 at 6 am on Tuesday while undergoing treatment at the capital’s Evercare Hospital. Her personal physician and BNP standing committee member Professor Dr. AZM Zahid Hossain confirmed the news of her death.
Present at the hospital at the time of his death were his eldest son and BNP acting chairman Tarique Rahman, family members, BNP Secretary General Mirza Fakhrul Islam Alamgir, and doctors.
Khaleda Zia had been suffering from various diseases including kidney complications, liver cirrhosis, diabetes and arthritis for a long time. She had sought treatment abroad several times for better treatment. Her death has cast a shadow of deep sorrow over the country’s political arena.
