The Bangladesh Nationalist Party (BNP) has announced a seven-day mourning program following the death of BNP Chairperson and former Prime Minister Begum Khaleda Zia. During this period, it has been decided to hoist black flags at the party’s central office and all offices across the country and for its leaders and activists to wear black badges.
BNP Senior Joint Secretary General Ruhul Kabir Rizvi announced the program at a press conference on Tuesday morning after news of Khaleda Zia’s death was confirmed at the capital’s Evercare Hospital.
The announced programs include Quran recitation and prayer mahfils at each party office, and opening condolence books at district offices including Gulshan and Nayapaltan. Leaders and dignitaries from various political parties will be able to write condolence messages there.
BNP Secretary General Mirza Fakhrul Islam Alamgir said at a press conference that the issue of Khaleda Zia’s funeral, burial and state honors will be finalized in coordination with the government. He said the government is calling a special meeting to decide on this issue and the BNP will also decide the next program in the standing committee meeting.
