Chandpur — Seven people were killed when two passenger launches collided in dense fog on the Meghna River in Chandpur. The accident occurred around 2 am on Thursday between Haimchar Upazila and Harina area.
After the accident, the injured and deceased passengers were brought to Sadarghat in Dhaka. Officer-in-charge of Sadarghat Naval Police Station, Sohag Rana, said that seven bodies have been recovered in the incident and several others were injured. Detailed information is being collected.
Bangladesh Inland Water Transport Authority (BIWTA) Chandpur Traffic Inspector Babulal Vaidya said that the launch MV Zakir Samrat-3, which was heading to Dhaka from Ghosherhat in Bhola, collided with the MV Adventure-9, which was heading to Barisal from Dhaka, while passing through Haimchar area in dense fog. One person was killed on the spot; several others later died of their injuries.
After the accident, the passengers of Zakir Samrat-3 were sent to Dhaka by the MV Karnaphuli-9 launch. Another passenger died on the way, said the concerned people.
