Dhaka Mass Transit Company Limited (DMTCL) has taken the initiative to re-evaluate and strengthen the safety measures in the capital’s metro rail after two teenagers fell onto the roof of the metro rail at Dhaka’s Secretariat Station. The company’s Managing Director Faruk Ahmed said this at a press conference held at its Uttara Diabari office on Monday.
According to Faruk Ahmed, the incident is unusual and worrisome. With passenger safety as the top priority, surveillance equipment is being increased, including additional CCTVs installed at the entrances of all stations. New security protocols are also being considered.
Two teenagers climbed onto the roof of the Metrorail at Secretariat Station around 8 pm on Sunday. Train services were immediately stopped and security checks were conducted on each track.
Regarding the metro rail expansion project, the DMTCL MD said that there has been no progress on the Diabari-Tongi section yet. A decision on the project will be taken after the new government takes office.
After the recent 5.7 magnitude earthquake in the capital, the metro rail infrastructure was inspected. Farooq Ahmed said that no physical damage was found anywhere.
