An urgent meeting of the Advisory Council was held on Monday (November 3) at the office of the Chief Advisor in Tejgaon, Dhaka, to discuss the implementation of the July National Accord proposed by the National Consensus Commission and related matters. The meeting was chaired by Chief Advisor Dr. Muhammad Yunus.
During the meeting, extensive discussions were held on the finalization of the July National Accord (Constitutional Reforms) Order, the organization of a referendum, and its content. According to a press release, there are differing opinions among political parties regarding some of the proposed reforms, highlighting the need for swift decision-making.
Concerns were also raised about the timing and content of the referendum, due to differing views among parties. It was decided that long-standing pro-democracy allied parties would hold discussions among themselves and provide a unified proposal to the government within a week.
The Advisory Council emphasized that there is no room for delay, and a unified proposal is urgently needed to facilitate government decision-making.
The meeting also reaffirmed the government’s commitment to hold the upcoming parliamentary elections in the first half of February 2026, and pledged to take all necessary preparations to ensure the electoral process is conducted fairly and transparently.
