Hasnat Abdullah, chief organizer of the South Zone of the National Citizens’ Party (NCP), has stated that one should have studied at the Secretariat instead of Biman Milestone School, as the Secretariat has now become the country’s largest center of authoritarianism and lawlessness. He made these remarks on Sunday (26 October) while speaking to reporters after a discussion at the Bangladesh Public Service Commission (BPSC) on the progress of the BCS examinations.
Hasnat said, “Unless the irregularities of the Ministry of Public Administration and the dominance of red tape are stopped, job aspirants will never be free. In July, a mass uprising began demanding the elimination of discrimination in BCS, yet coordination problems still exist in the PSC’s activities.”
He also accused that the officials (Amlar) benefited the most after the uprising, securing their promotions, while ordinary job seekers are still facing difficulties. He added, “Reforming the Ministry of Public Administration is urgent. Those in charge are unable to keep up with the times. This incompetence and negligence are creating frustration among the younger generation.”
According to Hasnat, the PSC is trying sincerely to reform, and it has recommended completing the BCS within a year. However, since the authority to amend job rules rests with the Ministry of Public Administration, if irregularities are not stopped, job aspirants will not be freed from the chains of red tape.
