The government has urged the National Citizens’ Party (NCP) to sign the July Charter, according to NCP Convener Nahid Islam after a meeting with the Chief Adviser of the interim government, Professor Muhammad Yunus.
Speaking to reporters after the meeting on Wednesday (October 22) at the Chief Adviser’s official residence, Jamuna, Nahid Islam said, “They (the government) have called on us to sign the July Charter.”
Earlier, around 5:30 p.m., a four-member NCP delegation arrived at Jamuna. The delegation included Convener Nahid Islam, Chief Organizer for the Northern Region Sarjis Alam, Senior Joint Convener Samanta Sharmin, and Joint Convener Khaled Saifullah.
A day earlier, on Tuesday evening, a delegation from the BNP led by Secretary General Mirza Fakhrul Islam Alamgir met with the Chief Adviser at Jamuna. During the meeting, the BNP urged the government to act as a neutral “caretaker” authority before the national election and demanded the removal of any politically affiliated individuals from the interim government.
