Dhaka: Fifteen military officers have been produced before the International Crimes Tribunal on Wednesday (22 October) in separate cases of crimes against humanity. They were brought in a Bangladesh prison-van marked as “Jail-Prison Van,” which is fully air-conditioned.
From 4:00 a.m., a large contingent of law enforcement personnel was deployed around the tribunal and court premises for security. At 7:00 a.m., the prison van entered the tribunal gate, and the officers were brought to the tribunal’s lock-up at 8:15 a.m. The proceedings, presided over by Judge Md. Golam Mortuza Majumder-led bench of Tribunal-1, concluded within half an hour. After the session, the officers were sent back to the prison van.
The tribunal also ordered 13 absconding accused in the enforced disappearance cases to surrender within a week through a public notice.
Among the 15 officers sent to prison, 14 are currently in active service while one is in LPR (Leave Pending Retirement). The officers include: former RAB Additional Director General Brigadier General Md. Jahangir Alam, Brigadier General Tofail Mostafa Sarwar, Brigadier General Md. Kamrul Hasan, Brigadier General Md. Mahbub Alam, Brigadier K.M. Azad, Colonel Abdullah Al Momen, Colonel Anwar Latif Khan (LPR), former RAB intelligence branch Director Lieutenant Colonel Md. Moshiur Rahman, Lieutenant Colonel Saiful Islam Sumon, Lieutenant Colonel Md. Sarwar bin Kashem, Lieutenant Colonel Md. Redwanul Islam, and former BGB officer Major Md. Rafat bin Alam.
Additionally, three former DGFI officers—Major General Sheikh Md. Sarwar Hossain, Brigadier General Md. Mahbubur Rahman Siddiqui, and Brigadier General Ahmed Tanvir Mazahar Siddiqui—were also present.
