The National Citizens Party (NCP) and Bangladesh Jamaat-e-Islami are scheduled to hold separate meetings today (Wednesday) with the Chief Adviser of the interim government, Professor Muhammad Yunus, as part of the ongoing political dialogue.
According to the Chief Adviser’s Press Wing, the NCP delegation will meet with Professor Yunus at his official residence, Jamuna, at 5:15 p.m., followed by a meeting with the Jamaat delegation at 6:00 p.m. The discussions are being held as part of efforts to continue political consultations with various parties.
Jamaat sources have confirmed that a five-member delegation led by Nayeb-e-Ameer Syed Abdullah Mohammad Taher will attend the meeting. The delegation is expected to discuss the prevailing political situation, implementation of the July Charter, and issues related to the upcoming elections.
Following the signing of the July Charter on October 17, disagreements among political parties over its implementation have prompted the Chief Adviser to initiate dialogue aimed at building political consensus.
During Tuesday’s meeting, the BNP demanded that the interim government overseeing the election function “in the structure of a caretaker government” and called for the removal of any politically affiliated individuals from the administration.
Meanwhile, Jamaat has already launched a movement demanding a national referendum in November and the introduction of a proportional representation (PR) system for parliamentary elections. The NCP, notably, did not sign the July Charter, a stance that political observers say is being viewed with particular interest.
