To ensure national-level security, the Ministry of Home Affairs has approved the purchase of two bulletproof vehicles for BNP Chairperson Khaleda Zia and Acting Chairman Tarique Rahman. Earlier this month, permission was granted for one bulletproof bus, and in June, approval was given for another bulletproof vehicle.
However, BNP has not yet finalized the country or model from which the vehicles will be purchased. Party sources said discussions are ongoing about acquiring the vehicles from Japan.
Major General (Retd.) Fazle Elahi Akbar, security advisor to the BNP Chairperson, stated that during elections, Khaleda Zia and Tarique Rahman will travel across the country for public outreach. The bulletproof vehicles are being procured to ensure their maximum security.
Additionally, BNP has applied to the Ministry of Home Affairs for licenses to possess firearms. Approval for one shotgun and two pistols is still under consideration.
