The power distribution company Dhaka Electric Supply Company (DESCO) has incurred losses for three consecutive years. Over the past two fiscal years, the company’s total losses have reached nearly Tk 6.3 billion.
According to the audited financial report for the 2024-25 fiscal year released on Sunday (October 12) through the Dhaka Stock Exchange, DESCO recorded a net loss of Tk 1.2523 billion after tax, equivalent to a loss of Tk 3.15 per share. In the previous fiscal year, the company had a net loss of Tk 5.056 billion, with a share loss of Tk 12.72 per share.
In the 2022-23 fiscal year, the company posted a net loss of Tk 5.4121 billion, or Tk 13.61 per share. Due to this consecutive loss, DESCO did not distribute dividends to its investors in the latest fiscal year, although it had provided 10% cash dividends in 2022-23.
While the company has managed to reduce the burden of losses somewhat in the most recent fiscal year, it has yet to break the cycle of consecutive losses, leaving investors without dividends once again.
