BNP chairman and prime minister Tarique Rahman has said that some political parties and individuals are trying to create anarchy in the country by spreading confusion. He also questioned whether any of those who were in ‘suppetta’ during the autocratic regime are now trying to create instability by sheltering the ousted autocracy.
He was speaking as the chief guest at a discussion meeting marking the 48th founding anniversary of BNP at the Krishibid Institution Bangladesh (KIB) auditorium in the capital on Saturday afternoon.
Tarique Rahman said during the autocratic rule, one party held ‘suppetta’ and later admitted it to their own people. Now if different political parties and individuals try to create anarchy by spreading confusion, it is necessary to present to the people who are behind it.
He said that the political forces have given shelter to each other at different times. It is also necessary to take into account whether any attempt is being made to bring the ousted autocracy to the fore.
Highlighting the government’s position, the prime minister said the people have given the responsibility of running the country. The government will do its best to uphold democratic norms and ethics.
He warned that legal action would be taken if there is an attempt to create anarchy, he said it is clear in the country’s law how to control such a situation. As an elected government, everyone should be within their own limits.
Mentioning that the BNP was by the side of the people in various times of the country, Tarique Rahman said the party worked with the leaders and activists and the common people to deal with the crisis.
He expressed his regret on behalf of the party to the common people, including the owners of industries that are suffering from power and energy crisis, as the BNP is in charge of running the country.
At the beginning of the discussion, a minute’s silence was observed in memory of BNP founder Ziaur Rahman, former chairperson Khaleda Zia and other leaders and activists. A documentary on BNP was screened at the programme under the slogan ‘Karbo Kab, Garbo Desh, Bangladesh first’.
Acting secretary general Ruhul Kabir Rizvi presided over the meeting. State minister for fisheries and livestock Sultan Salahuddin Tuku moderated the programme. Central leaders, including members of the party’s standing committee, participated in the meeting.
