The ‘Long March’ of 11-party unity has begun from Dhaka to Chittagong with various demands including implementation of the referendum results, trial of the July massacre, resolution of the electricity, oil, gas and fertilizer crisis, and prevention of price increases of daily necessities.
On Saturday (September 5), the 11-party unity organized an inaugural rally at the capital’s Shapla Square at 7 am. Bangladesh Jamaat-e-Islami Ameer Dr. Shafiqur Rahman addressed the rally as the chief guest. After his speech, the Long March convoy left for Chittagong.
The rally, which began with the recitation of the Holy Quran, was inaugurated by Bangladesh Jamaat-e-Islami’s Assistant Secretary General and Coordinator of the 11-Party Unity Dr. AHM Hamidur Rahman Azad. Later, top leaders of the alliance delivered speeches.
The demands announced by the 11-party unity include an end to extortion and corruption, improvement of the law and order situation, and an end to narrow party affiliation.
Road rallies will be held at several places along the route of the long march. These include the truck stand adjacent to Kachpur Bridge in Narayanganj, Padua Bazar Bishwa Road in Comilla, Mahipal and Mirsarai in Feni. The last stage of the program will be held at Laldighi Maidan in Chittagong.
