Mirza Fakhrul sworn in as President

  • Mirza Fakhrul Islam Alamgir has been sworn in as the 23rd President of the country. He was sworn in as the President at the historic courtyard of Bangabhaban at 7pm on Friday (August 21st).

    The swearing-in ceremony began with the recitation of the Holy Quran at 7pm. Cabinet Secretary Nasimul Gani conducted the programme on the order of the President.

    Mirza Fakhrul Islam Alamgir’s convoy entered Bangabhaban around 7pm to take oath as president. Later, at seven o’clock he arrived at the scheduled stage.

    Prime minister Tarique Rahman, cabinet members, members of parliament, leaders of different political parties, military and civil officials, judges, diplomats and other dignitaries were present on the occasion.

    Officials of the Cabinet Division said more than one thousand 200 guests were invited to the President’s swearing-in ceremony.

    With the oath of office of Mirza Fakhrul, he has officially taken over as president. Earlier on Thursday, he was elected with 255 votes in the presidential election held in the National Assembly. His rival, retired Colonel Oli Ahmed, received 88 votes.
