Prime Minister Tarique Rahman has directed to set up solar panels in phases in the country’s important government buildings to tackle the energy crisis and increase the use of renewable energy.
He came up with the directive at a meeting on solar energy held at the Prime Minister’s Office at the Cabinet Division of the Secretariat on Monday (August 3rd).
At the meeting, the Prime Minister made three important decisions to promote renewable energy. These are—
Solar panels are installed in important government buildings.
To provide government assistance in the import of raw materials used in the production of solar inverters in the country.
Develop an effective economic model to make solar energy more affordable, accessible and profitable for the common people.
At the initial stage, it has been decided to install solar panels in important government installations including Bangabhaban, Tejgaon Prime Minister’s Office, Jatiya Sangsad Bhavan, Bangladesh Secretariat, Prime Minister’s Office and Finance Ministry’s building and Planning Commission building.
The Prime Minister said that if the use of solar power in government buildings starts, the interest in the use of this technology will also increase among the common people.
At the meeting, Pran-RFL Group and Walton Group highlighted various aspects of installing solar panels in the residential building and adding the generated electricity to the national grid. According to the presentation of the two companies, if this initiative is implemented, it will create new employment opportunities along with saving electricity and energy. At the same time, it will be possible to operate various electrical appliances including air conditioner, fan, elevator through solar power.
The meeting also focused on further highlighting the economic and practical benefits of solar energy among consumers.
Finance and Planning Minister Amir Khasru Mahmud Chowdhury, Prime Minister’s Finance and Planning Adviser Rashed Al Mahmud Titumir, State Minister for Local Government Mir Shahe Alam, BIDA Executive Chairman Ashik Chowdhury, NBR Acting Chairman Ahsan Habib, Pran-RFL Group Chairman Ahsan Khan Chowdhury, Walton Group Managing Director SM Mahbubul Alam and other senior officials were present at the meeting.
