Kazi Salahuddin has been elected for the fifth time in a row as the president of the South Asian Football Federation (SAFF). He was re-elected president unopposed at the SAFF Congress held in Bhutan on Saturday (August 1st).
There was no competition in the election of the Executive Committee. According to Article 24.2 of the Constitution, if the number of candidates for a post is not more than the vacancies, the candidates concerned are unanimously elected.
Kazi Salahuddin has been the president of SAFF since 2009. This time he was in charge of the fifth term.
Earlier, in the constitution of Saf, more than seventy-seven years old, there was no opportunity to elect the executive committee. However, the age limit was unanimously revoked at the special general meeting held in Colombo last year. There are no restrictions on him to be elected to a new term.
Bangladesh’s representation in the new executive committee has also increased. BFF vice-president Sabbir Ahmed Arif has been elected as a member of the executive committee of SAFF for the first time.
Sri Lanka’s Jaswar Umaru Labe has been elected vice-president without contesting and Hussein Shafiu of the Maldives as a member of the executive committee.
