Bangladesh made history by whitewashing Pakistan

  • Bangladesh created history with Liton Das’ strong batting, Taijul Islam’s whirlwind and the entire team’s impressive performance. The Tigers defeated Pakistan by 78 runs in the Sylhet Test to whitewash the two-match series 2-0. This is the first time Bangladesh has whitewashed Pakistan in Test cricket at home.

    Pakistan’s Mohammad Rizwan and Sajid Khan created some concern on the morning of the fifth day. The visitors, who finished the day at 316 for 7, needed 121 more runs to win, while Bangladesh needed just three wickets.

    Mehidy Hasan Miraz had a chance to bring Rizwan back early in the day, but he failed to capitalize on it. He let slip an easy catch at slip off Nahid Runner. After that, Rizwan and Sajid gradually started giving Pakistan a dream of coming back into the match.

    However, left-arm spinner Taijul Islam came to the rescue again at the crucial moment. He broke the important partnership of Sajid Khan and completed his fiver. Sajid scored 28 runs off 36 balls.

    Shariful Islam then did not let Rizwan, who was on his way to a century, last long. The Pakistani wicketkeeper-batsman played a fighting innings of 94 runs off 166 balls before being caught by Miraz. His innings included 10 fours.

    Taijul ended Pakistan’s innings by dismissing Khurram Shehzad for a duck at the end. Mohammad Abbas remained unbeaten on a duck at the other end.

    Taijul Islam took the highest wicket for Bangladesh in the second innings with 6 wickets. He laid the foundation for the victory by giving away 120 runs in 34.2 overs. Nahid Rana also took 2 wickets. Shariful Islam and Mehedi Hasan Miraj got one wicket each.

    Earlier, Bangladesh scored 278 runs in the first innings on the century of Liton Das, putting the bat on the board. In reply, Pakistan was all out for 232 runs. Taking a lead of 46 runs, Bangladesh scored 390 runs in the second innings. As a result, the target for Pakistan was 437 runs.

    But in the end, the visitors’ innings was stopped at 358 runs, and with that, Bangladesh secured one of their most memorable series wins against Pakistan in Test history.
