Tarique Rahman has hinted at a positive stand against the demand of upgrading Comilla to the division. He said the decision would be taken on the basis of the demands and needs of the people.
At a road rally held at Lakshmipur Bazar ground in Barura upazila of Comilla on Saturday, the prime minister said, “If the people are demanding, the Comilla division will be.” After his speech, there was a lot of enthusiasm among the people present.
The Prime Minister said the government is committed to fulfilling the expectations and commitments given to the government on the basis of the expectations and commitments made by the people of the country. “First of all, the country and the country are everyone. We will continue to work according to the mandate given by the people.”
Tarique Rahman said, “If everyone agrees with this demand, it will be implemented.” According to political analysts, the demand for division of Comilla has been a long-standing and the prime minister’s statement on the issue has been renewed.
Since Saturday morning, activists and supporters from different parts of the country have been gathering at the meeting place of Barura. As the hour progressed, the entire area became a sea of people. When the Prime Minister arrived on the stage, the people present greeted him with applause.
At the end of the meeting, the Prime Minister visited Chandpur. There, ‘Khordd Canal’ re-excavation work was inaugurated in Uaruk Bazar area of Shahrasti upazila. Later, he also inaugurated the re-excavation of the Biswa Canal in Kumarduli village of Shah Mahmudpur union of Sadar upazila.
The government has said that these canal re-excavation projects will play an important role in alleviating local waterlogging, improving agricultural irrigation and maintaining water flow.
