  • In the wake of a long-standing tension between the two superpowers, President Donald Trump and Chinese President Xi Jinping’s meeting in Beijing has sparked renewed talks in international politics.
US President Donald Trump arrived in China on Friday after a two-day high-level meeting. He called the visit “very successful” and “irresponsible”.

Chinese President Xi Jinping also described the visit as “historic and groundbreaking”, saying the two countries agreed to build a new foundation to take the mutual relations to a more strategic and stable level.

According to analysts, relations between Washington and Beijing have been under intense pressure over trade disputes, Taiwan questions, technology competition and Middle East issues. In reality, the meeting is seen not only in a formal diplomatic visit, but also an important attempt to rebuild relations.

Trade and energy cooperation was the most important at the meeting. The U.S. attaches importance to China’s market access, while China highlights its position on global supply chains and regional stability. The Taiwan issue and tensions in the Middle East around Iran also came up in the discussion.

After the last round of talks in Beijing, Trump paid tribute to Xi Jinping, calling him a “old friend” and expressed his desire to host him in Washington in the future. It is seen as a message of revival of the personal contacts of the two leaders in the diplomatic circles.

Experts believe that although the immediate results of the visit are not visible, it may play a role in reducing the tension in relations between the two countries. At the same time, the future guidance of the US-China relations on the global economy, security and geopolitics will also largely depend on this discussion.
