Police have recovered the body of Forkan, who was accused of killing his wife, three children and brother-in-law in Kapasia, Gazipur. His floating body was recovered from the Padma River in Rajshahi on Thursday.
Earlier, the Criminal Investigation Department (CID) of the police recovered the bags and clothes of Forkan from the Padma Bridge as part of the investigation. Initially, it was thought that he could have committed suicide by jumping into the river from the bridge after the killing.
According to police and related sources, Forkan had been on the run since the killing of five people. A number of law enforcement agencies have launched a number of arrests to arrest him. Later, the search was further strengthened when his used bags and clothes were recovered in the Padma Bridge area. His body was recovered from the river on Thursday.
Earlier, the horrific murder took place at a rented house in Rautkona village of Kapasia upazila on 8 May last night. The deceased were identified as Forkan’s wife Sharmin, three children’s daughters Mim (15), Maria (8), Faria (2) and brother-in-law Rasul Mia.
The next morning, Forkan called a member of his family and said he was going to kill five people. Later, locals went to the house and recovered the bodies of five people. According to the scene, the bodies of the three children were lying side by side, and Sharmin’s body was found hanging. The body of Rasul Mia was found in the bed.
Local liquor bottles, cooked food and documents were also recovered from the spot. The documents also led to the investigation into the family disputes and previous financial complaints.
Police say the incident is being investigated by the possible motive for the murder and suicide. The exact cause of death will be confirmed after the autopsy report is received.
