Actor Joseph Vijay, better known as Thalapati, has become the biggest surprise in the assembly elections in the Indian state of Tamil Nadu.
His party, Tamilaga Vetri Kalagham (TVK), is ahead in the polls for the first time.
According to data from Monday (May 4th) until 2pm local time, TV has emerged as the most powerful political force in the state. The two main teams, Dravid Munnetra Kajhagam (DMK) and All India Anna Dravid Munnetra Kajhagam (AIADMK), have been cornered by their rise.
Eighteen seats are required to form the government in the 234-seat assembly. TV is already close to the majority or is on the way to it.
The DMK, led by the current chief minister MK Stalin, has lagged far behind in this election. As a result, there is a major change in the long-standing two-way politics of Tamil Nadu.
The power of the two-way politics
For a long time, Tamil Nadu’s politics was largely limited to the DMK and AIADMK. The rise of the third force outside these two dravid groups was rare. However, the TV is making a big change in this trend.
He formed the party in 2024 and came to victory in politics. From the very beginning, he announced that his party would take part in the election alone without any alliance. Before the election, he referred to it as a “democratic fight” and vowed not to compromise with the ideals.

The Bharatiya Janata Party (BJP) has announced that it will join the Bharatiya Janata Party (BJP). The party took part in the election alone.
“We are confident that we will be able to form a government with our own strength,” party spokesman Felix Gerald said.
UDF advances in Kerala
The United Democratic Front (UDF), another southern state of Kerala, has already crossed the threshold of a majority.
The state Congress president, Sunny Joseph, blamed the anti-people policy for the defeat of the Left alliance. However, he said a decision on the candidate for the post of chief minister would be taken later.
