Tarique Rahman, the head of the country’s government, reiterated his commitment to build a humane state to bring justice to the doorsteps of all citizens.
He said the government is working with the aim of building a state structure where no citizen will be deprived of justice due to economic constraints.
He was speaking as the chief guest at the National Legal Aid Day event held in the capital on Tuesday. In his speech, he mentioned that the country is moving towards a democratic transformation and establishing the rule of law is the foundation of this progress.
The Prime Minister said the government is implementing a well-planned legal assistance programme for financially disadvantaged citizens. In his words, justice is not limited to the lawbook, but it should be reflected in the daily life of people.
He added that the true meaning of justice is achieved only when the law is not applied to people mechanically and become a moral commitment to protect their dignity and fundamental rights. He said the state should play a responsible role in ensuring equal access to the rights guaranteed by the constitution for all.
Referring to the judicial process, the Prime Minister said the delay in justice means being deprived of justice in many cases. Considering this reality, the focus is on resolving disputes before the case so that the pressure on the judicial system can be reduced and a quick solution can be ensured.
According to analysts, the head of government’s statement has brought forward a policy stand to make the country’s judicial system more accessible and popular, which could add a new dimension to legal aid activities in the future.
