A day-long workshop aimed at promoting gender-sensitive and responsible screenwriting in the entertainment industry was held in the capital, bringing together around 60 scriptwriters from across the country.
Speakers at the event highlighted the growing influence of media and stressed the need for balanced representation of men and women in television and digital content. They underscored that inclusive and sensitive storytelling can play a vital role in challenging entrenched stereotypes and fostering positive social transformation.
The workshop also focused on building a strong professional network among scriptwriters to encourage the creation of more responsible and realistic content in the future. Key discussions revolved around power dynamics in character portrayal, the use of gender-sensitive language, and addressing deep-rooted biases reflected in mainstream narratives.
Renowned playwright and director Masum Reza emphasized the importance of moving beyond traditional stereotypes in portraying female characters. He urged writers to present women in empowered and authentic roles that reflect their rightful place in society.
The session was conducted by Professor Muhammad Asaduzzaman, Director of the International Mother Language Institute, alongside Masum Reza and actress-educator Wahida Mollik Jolly. Through interactive discussions, they explored the ethical responsibilities of content creators and the role of media in shaping societal attitudes.
Organized under the “Youth for Equality” initiative, the workshop is part of a broader international collaboration aimed at fostering a more inclusive media landscape. Organizers said the initiative seeks to engage young creators and build a more socially responsible entertainment ecosystem over the long term.
