The by-election for Bogra-6 constituency and the postponed voting for Sherpur-3 constituency began at 7:30 am on Thursday (April 9). According to the Election Commission’s schedule, voting through ballot papers will continue uninterrupted until 4:30 pm.
The main contenders in the by-election for Bogra-6 constituency are BNP’s Rezaul Karim Badsha, Jamaat’s Abidur Rahman Sohel and Bangladesh Development Party’s Al Amin Talukder. According to district election officials, two judicial magistrates, 20 executive magistrates and 2,655 election officers are on duty to ensure transparency and order in the voting.
Members of the police, Ansar, BGB, RAB and army have been deployed to maintain law and order. Out of a total of 151 centers, 53 have been identified as risky, of which five centers have been considered particularly risky and additional security measures have been taken.
On the other hand, BNP’s Mahmudul Haque Rubel, Jamaat-e-Islami’s Masudur Rahman and Bangladesh Samajtantrik Dal (Maoist)’s Mizanur Rahman are contesting in Sherpur-3 constituency. A total of 413,377 voters will exercise their franchise in 128 centers in this constituency, which consists of two upazilas, 17 unions and one municipality.
