In the wake of the global energy crisis, the businessmen’s organization has decided to close shops and shopping malls across the country by 8pm to bring restraint in the use of electricity. The move is seen as a voluntary initiative in line with the government’s energy saving efforts.
In a statement released on Thursday, the Bangladesh Shop Business Owners Association said that all commercial companies in the country, including the capital, will complete the operation within the stipulated time. General Secretary of the organization Md. Arifur Rahman Tipu said, “This is the decision of the businessmen; no mandatory directive has been given by the government.”
According to the organization, the impact of instability in the international energy market has become necessary to control the use of electricity. In this reality, there has been a consensus among the traders about the closure of shops, shopping malls and shopping malls across the country, including Dhaka metropolis, within the stipulated time.
However, some institutions have been kept out of this decision considering the need for public life. Emergency services, including hotels, pharmacies and raw markets, will remain open as before.
According to the concerned, such initiatives in the private sector can help reduce the pressure on power management and play a role in creating a responsible trend in energy use.
