Amidst the volatility in global markets, a new ship carrying 30,000 tons of fuel oil has arrived in Bangladesh to somewhat stabilize the country’s fuel supply situation. The ship, named ‘MT Gran Kuva’, brought 10,000 tons of diesel and 20,000 tons of jet fuel on Thursday morning.
Government agency Bangladesh Petroleum Corporation (BPC) said that Chinese company Unipec has supplied the consignment as per the contract. Those concerned believe that the consignment will add relief to the market in the context of recent supply uncertainty.
According to BPC, the imported diesel will be used in the transport and industrial sectors, while the jet fuel will be supplied to various airports in the country. The fuel management has been under pressure recently due to price increases and supply delays in the international market.
The chairman of the organization said that the ship arrived as per the predetermined schedule and there is currently no fuel crisis in the country. At the same time, efforts are continuing to procure fuel from alternative sources.
Fuel imports are continuing to be planned in the coming months. Sources said that several ships are scheduled to import diesel, jet fuel, octane and furnace oil in April and May, although some uncertainty remains over supply security.
