Three cargo ships have been damaged in a row by unidentified projectiles in the Strait of Hormuz, a strategic waterway in the Middle East. One of the ships caught fire, but most of the crew were evacuated safely.
The British Maritime Security Agency (UKMTO) confirmed the attack on Wednesday, French news agency AFP reported.
According to maritime safety sources, the Thai-flagged bulk carrier Mayuri Nari was hit about 11 nautical miles north of the Omani coast. The ship caught fire but was later brought under control and there were no reports of environmental damage.
Earlier, the Japanese-flagged container ship One Majesty was attacked about 25 nautical miles northwest of Ras Al Khaimah, United Arab Emirates. The ship’s crew is safe and it is proceeding to a safe anchorage.
The third attack involved the Marshall Islands-flagged bulk carrier Star Gwyneth , which was hit about 50 miles northwest of Dubai. All crew members on board were reported to be safe.
