  • Bangladesh easily defeated Pakistan in the ODI series, thanks to the devastating bowling of young pacer Nahid Rana and the stormy batting of opener Tanjid Hasan Tamim.

Chasing a target of 115 runs in the first match of the three-match series at the Sher-e-Bangla National Cricket Stadium in Mirpur, the hosts won by 8 wickets in just 15.1 overs, taking a 1-0 lead in the series.

Tanjid Hasan Tamim was aggressive from the start on the way to victory. Batting in T20 style, he completed his fifty in 32 balls. In the end, he left the field after finishing the match with an unbeaten 67 runs in 42 balls with 7 fours and 5 sixes. On the other hand, Nazmul Hossain Shanto scored 27 runs in 33 balls.

Earlier, Pakistan, having lost the toss and elected to bat, were in a good position at the start, but their innings quickly collapsed. They did not lose a wicket until 41 runs, but lost 9 wickets after scoring the next 41 runs.

Pakistan’s batting line-up could not stand up to Nahid Rana’s pace and line-length. The visitors were all out for 114 runs in 30.4 overs. Middle-order batsman Faheem Ashraf was the top scorer for the team with 37 runs off 47 balls.

Nahid Rana took a career-best 5 wickets for 25 runs in 7 overs. Captain Mehedi Hasan Miraj took 3 wickets for 29 runs in 10 overs.

Bangladesh’s dominance in both bowling and batting departments put Pakistan under great pressure at the start of the match series.
