The government has decided to award the Independence Award to 15 distinguished individuals and 5 institutions this year in recognition of their glorious and meritorious contributions to national life.
The list of awardees also includes former Prime Minister Khaleda Zia, who is being honored posthumously for her contributions to freedom, democracy, and women’s education.
The list was finalized at a cabinet meeting held at the Secretariat on Thursday. The meeting was chaired by Prime Minister Tarique Rahman. Later, Cabinet Secretary Nasimul Ghani informed reporters about this.
Faujdarhat Cadet College and Major Mohammad Abdul Jalil (posthumously) are receiving awards for their contribution to the Liberation War. Professor Dr. Zahurul Karim is receiving awards in science and technology and Dhaka Medical College Hospital is receiving awards in medicine.
Dr. Ashraf Siddiqui (posthumously) is receiving the award in literature. AKS Hanif (Hanif Sanket) and Bashir Ahmed (posthumously) have been selected in culture.
PhD Kazi Fazlur Rahman (posthumously) has been selected in the field of public administration. Mohammad Abdul Baki, Professor Dr. MA Rahim and Professor Dr. Sukomal Barua have been nominated for the award in the field of research and training, and Abdul Mukit Majumder (Mukit Majumder Babu) has been nominated for the award in the field of environmental conservation.
The Swadhinata Puraskar is the country’s highest civilian honor. It is awarded every year on the occasion of Independence Day in recognition of special contributions in various fields.
