The naval wing of Iran’s Islamic Revolutionary Guard Corps ( IRGC ) claimed early Wednesday that it had successfully launched a missile attack targeting a US destroyer deployed in the Indian Ocean.
The organization’s statement said that the attack was carried out as part of ‘Operation True Promise-4’.
According to the Iranian side, the destroyer was refueling from a US tanker about 650 kilometers off the coast of Iran when it was fired at by Qadr-360 and Talayeh missiles, which it claimed hit their targets. The statement also mentioned fires on both ships and plumes of black smoke in the sky.
The Iranian military described the attack as a “strong response” to US and Israeli aggression. However, the US did not immediately confirm the claim, and no independent source was able to verify the incident.
